Helix – S01.01 Pilot

Miz and TechSupport watched the pilot and season episode for this new series. Touted as a new sci-fi slash horror tv show we were interested to see how this would turn out. Unfortunately Miz wasn’t impressed – especially as TechSupport kept mumbling things about obsolete technology and holes in the sci-fi plot. And there were two very good looking females cast so we expected one to die in the first ten minutes (they didn’t).

Plot summary from Miz: A remote Arctic (?) research lab has diseased people and monkeys alongside some sort of secret government coverup. Disease specialists  from CDC (Center for Disease Control) flown in to help but then they get caught up in the drama and drama. Lab goes into quarantine and then a bunch of dead bodies with black goo instead of blood start piling up.

Plot holes from TechSupport: You wouldn’t fly a helicopter to the Arctic base AND there would be no science base in the Arctic. Monkeys can still bite so keep on your decontamination suit even if you believe the disease is airborne.

Apart from the plot cons as detailed above, there were some moments of genius. Well genius may be putting it a bit too far. The black goo was awesome (as was the vomit in the suit/mask). Frozen monkeys. The air vent tunnels were spooky and that cinematography was well shot. The acting was a bit stilted and the love triangle seemed to jump over a generation and the age difference was unbelievable.

Though TechSupport liked it so we may watch it again 🙂

There’s people on the street
Getting diseases from monkeys
Yeah, that’s what I said
They’re getting diseases from monkeys

Revenge – S03.11 – Homecoming

Em is alive!! But not as we know her. Not as she knows herself. She doesn’t remember anything. Except that David Clark is her father. Excellent twist and Miz suspects that this will turn a stagnant tv show back into it’s former glory. And of course Jack was able to reach into the real Emily and bring her back into herself, by simply kissing her on her forehead and giving her a talisman from Amanda-Emily. And then she remembered Daniel shot her. Yes, well played girl.

And of course Lydia was going to get framed here. Don’t mess with Vicky. Though why Conrad didn’t just triple-cross Vicky and then set HER up, thus saving  Daniel and FRAMING VICKY. Miz could write this show. And while we are talking about Daniel, why wasn’t he even concerned that HE SHOT A PERSON? Yes he wanted to hand himself in, but that was much more for his own self rather than human emotion of guilt/sadness/any normal range of human emotion. Perhaps he’s hungover. Well he bloody well deserves to!!

And an Australian assassin – Niko??. Literally sounds the same as the person who narrates criminal investigation Australia. With an Australian name. That means that her and Aiden can live happily ever after. Yah Emily and Jack = end game. But weird that we have literally never heard or seen her before.

Patrick is not Team Nolan; Patrick is Team Vicky. Sad face for Nolan. Now he can exact all the revenge with Emily. Sneaky Patrick is going to be his downfall. Move the safe Nolan. RIGHT NOW.

Oh and no shirtless boys in this episode. Boo-urns.

Sherlock – Season 1

Wow, how have Miz and TechSupport not found this show before now!! With all our normal shows on hiatus we tried out a few others and watched a few movies in our holiday mode. We decided to watch this given all the hype surround the third season which has just started… And boy did we like it!!

Sherlock is like a cross between The Mentalist, Criminal Minds, Lie to Me, and all those CSI/Criminal Intent programmes. Benedict Cumberbatch is amazing. His cheekbones are made for this type of high-functioning-sociopath. His tall, slender walk, and slim fitted costuming with his mop of hair, just jump out of the screen and scream Holmes. He gets off on solving these crimes and in serial killers, seemingly to play mind games but not in the dooshbaggery may of Patrick Jane.

Watson and Sherlock play off each other so well don’t they? We were hooked before Sherlock made his speech about deductions to do with John after looking at his cell-phone.

We loved this 21st adaptation of one of the literary classics – smartphone and forensics, nicotine patches instead of pipe chain smoking, and the internet instead of libraries. Moriarty was excellent in the last episode and the craziness of the changing accent – GOLD. And oh the cliffhanger. I can see how viewers were irritated having to wait 2 years before the second series!

Revenge – S03.10 – Exodus

This is it. This is the episode that Miz has been waiting for over the last 2 and a half seasons. Emily getting her revenge-on Vicky. “Only you could make vengeance so beautiful.” – Nolan. If you haven’t seen this episode, then don’t read this post. I’m warning you. Super dooper spoilers ahead.

Firstly, the non-essential plot points:

Wedding dress: beautiful, but made her look super square. And I think I saw panty line. Could have been better. AND then she wore a different poofy bottom to the ceremony itself. I guess if you’ve got a costume budget… Talking about budget, I mean it was a nice wedding but it certaintly wasn’t a great gatsby/hampton’s wedding was it? TechSupport (who was watching from afar in the corner) said that she should have sorted her hair differently than what she normally wears in her revengey-every-day-lives.

(Also, Lydia’s red dress was AWESOME but NOT.AT.ALL appropriate for a wedding. Doesn’t stop Miz from wanting it though. Verdict is out on the spew yellow/green dress.)

The sexual tension between the newly found Patrick and Vicky was still there, even after all this time! Vicky wore a negligee and Patrick left his hands on his mother’s shoulders slight.too.long. It’s like GOT all over again. I see your mouth moving “mom” and yet your eyes are saying “bedfellow”.

Talking about bedfellows. Does everyone in the world want Nolan to JUST BE HAPPY?! Nolan-in-tails deserves to have some sham-bang too.

Miz also enjoyed the flashback on Emily’s journey throughout the episode.

I also enjoyed Sara and Jack’s sexytime eyes and heart-to-heart. It was a tragic scene but it was super adorable. I liked it. BUT THEN things went DOWNHILL. Sara, what are you doing?? The suicide attempt wasn’t foreshadowed at all.

Vicky throwing the bracelet overboard was sadface – all that gun residue.

No one just leaves a remote lying around that operates the secret passage to the safe. TOTES UNREALISTIC.

Right, onto the main event: Emily is “dead-ed” and who shot her?

How about THAT for the shooter?! Daniel Grayson. You naughty boy. Not only did you ring Sara on your WEDDING NIGHT, you also shot Emily. What were you thinking?! Drunk? Argh, writers should have stopped with the drunken storyline. But it was a nice twist about Daniel shooting Em. Sure, he was on my list, but I always thought he was too weak to actually do something about it. I guess Drunk Daniel Loves Sara And Upset About Life isn’t weak at all.

BUT – why the hell did Aiden leave Lydia and Vicky ALONE. Thought the plan was to lock Vicky (and presumably whoever was with her) in the bathroom to screw over the alibi. What was Aiden thinking here?! This screwed everything up – allowed everything to uncoil [Also, Miz tried to write “untoil” which apparently isn’t a word; the things you don’t know). Is Aiden not Team Emily after all?! Confused. AND how did Daniel get gun?

Final thought: Emily can’t really be dead. Can she?! This would blow my mind. Oh please say she’s deaded.!! Or at least playing dead FOR EVERYONE. But Jack. Jack and Ems forever.

Actual final thought: Em’s wedding vows were to Jack. And to revenge. And they were beautiful: Daniel, I’ve looked forward to this day since I was a little girl. Thank you for letting me into your life, into your family. Through you, I’ve become the woman that I always wanted to be, the woman that I needed to be. From the moment I met you, I knew that this moment was in our destiny. We share a bond that is unbreakable. Until death parts us.

PS Miz apoligises for the shouty BITS in this post. It was just outrageous. The whole episode. And that is a testament to this episode and everything coming together. Haven’t been this excited for a Revenge episode for ages!

The Mentalist – S06.09 and S06.10

Caught myself up. Oh la la!

Two years in advance. No Red John. Jane speaking Spanish. And it was totes obvious that the other American, hot lady person, was a plant. Agent Kim Fischer is a new character and does mix things up a bit. Jane will be playing with Kim’s mind and this will add a new dimension to the series. Also, surely they will have to clean up all the various agents of Red John? SURELY.

Miz appreciates Cho’s deadpan look. He’s SUCH an FBI agent isn’t he. I just want him to find true love now.

So many things to say. Anyway, glad that this series is going to take a slight twist now that Red John is dead-ed.

Revenge – S03.09 – Surrender

Miz watched this episode last night and immediately txted JJ: “Have you watched revenge this week? Basically Conrad wears cardy around neck/shoulders and Vicky red Christmas themed outfits.” Then Miz got excited slash distracted as shirtless Aiden was on screen.

In 24 hours Daniel and Emily get married, and we will finally see who “kills” Emily. And this episode tied up a bunch of loose ends that needed to happen – Emily and Aiden have new identities/passports with last names Ross (cute!) Nolan will come visit them in the Maldives), Sarah said “no deal” and left Daniel, Lydia and Conrad had sexytime and love each other, Charlotte wants to leave the Hamptons (JJ will appreciate that!), and Aiden proposed (of course he did). Oh and Vicky has un-RSVPed to the wedding which is obviously AWFUL because Emily NEEDS her there to get REVENGE.

So a lot happened. Miz kinda just yawned through the hour, hoping that next week’s episode comes fast…

– Lydia is playing (with/on/simply playing) Conrad and will scam everyone out of all the money.

– Lydia will do something with photograph which resurfaced with Emily-Amanda in black wig. She’s got to be one pissed off lady that this is the photograph that caused her to get on the plane (and then off again – back when Vicky and Lydia loved/tolerates each other).

– One of the boys must die or get injured. Aiden maybe? Certainty Emily and Aiden won’t be horse riding off into the sun anytime soon…

– Vicky throwing her toys by un-RSVPing will obviously backfire in some delicious fashion.

– Daniel will throw in the towel and they won’t get married. Ooo maybe DANIEL WILL DIE.

– Something big has to happen to Jack. Maybe he won’t die, but possibly he’ll kill Aiden?

JJ – Any other predictions? (There are 13 episodes left of this season FYI…)
